Just Eat It!

I love baking.  As far back as I can remember I loved being in the kitchen with my grandma or mom and scraping the cake batter from the bowl.  Of course, I always had to get as much as I could before the bowl was passed to Grandpa.  Sometimes he would share.  I especially remember the elaborate birthday cakes my mom would make.  Cakes like cookie monster and strawberry shortcake!  They were so colorful and cute, I know she spent a lot of time on them.  Thanks, Mom! :)

Now that I have a daughter I love the thought of making her birthday cakes.  She is going to be 1 in less than 2 months and I have already started planning.  Zebra and pink is the theme, and there are so many ideas out there on the internet!  Anyway, here is my first attempt, or her "practice" cake.  This was my first time making modeling chocolate, and it was easy!  I used store bought icing this time, but I'll make my own buttercream for the real thing.  I think I'll make it a darker pink, and make the cake into two tiers (if I can find a 6 inch or so cake pan).  Overall I like how it turned out.  Leave me a comment or suggestion and tell me what you think!

Hey I know you are a busy mama, but I am doing a series of blog guest posts about being a mom, moms around the world and are we all the same way raising kids. You could just write about how life was when you were a kid with you mom, and now that you are the mom, how do you raise him, did you do it like your mom did. What are the rules, the traditions and values you teach, etc. Let me know.
